Cloud Classification
Cloud are held in three basic classifications as follows measured from the height of the clouds base.
High |
Medium |
Low |
This will vary according to it's location on Earth. The Troposphere is the region where weather and clouds exist, the height of the top of this region is called the Tropopause and is at maximum around the Equator and at minimum at the Poles. At temperate latitudes (UK) the base height can vary by quite a degree seasonally. There for in the UK the estimated heights can be as follows:
High |
Summer Winter |
7500m 5000m |
Medium |
Summer Winter |
5000m 2000m |
Low |
Summer Winter |
2000m 300m |
height of cloud base in metres
